SKINCARE
Rich moisturizer and Bakuchiol
If you’ve been with me for a while you know I love a really good moisturizer. I still love my Purito but this Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream is my new favorite. It saves my skin at night and is a really good base for make up.
Bakuchiol is my new favorite skincare ingredient. It is “natures retinol.” Tip—use more moisturizer when you use bakuchiol. I mix mine into my retinol and I have already started seeing lovely results. Bouncier, happier skin. This is the one Ive been using and it’s lasted me several months so far.
Dr. Althea Cleansing Balm takes the day off my face. Sweat, make up, sunscreen, cooking oil, salt air, croissant crumbs— this guy takes it off so well and leaves my skin feeling clean but not dried out.
THE SUPPLEMENTS
Cortisol Management and Immune Support
Oh boy do I need cortisol and immune support in the summer. Cortisol is our stress hormone, its produced by the adrenal glands and helps regulate metabolism, immune function, blood pressure, and the sleep-wake cycle. It's essential for maintaining homeostasis, so, I take it very seriously in the months I am needed most.
I really like Integrative Therapeutics Cortisol Manager. I take two at night before bed for sound sleep and overnight repair, and two in the morning. No side effects, just a more supported, even keeled system.
For daily immunity Ive been leaning on this little guy. I typically get sick when I’m stressed, which means I am typically in and out of being sick all summer. The only change to my routine has been taking this Clinical Immunity Daily Boost every day.
ZEN
ZEN
This is a bit of an LOL. Is there zen for the owner of a seasonal business in July? Well, there isnt, but a girl can try.
I have found huge value in some of the things I used to categorize as “wooo wooo.” A daily meditation practice (no matter how brief), essential oils, incense, going to sit by the ocean. In all honesty its hard to force myself to maintain these practices during this busy season, but when I do them, I feel so, so much better.
I am currently on my 114th consecutive day of meditation. Sometimes I get to do a twenty minute one, but mostly its a three minute anti anxiety breathing exercise. I use Insight Timer, I love it.
My practice is early in the morning right when I get up. I dont brush my teeth or was my face. I let Saul out to wee and then we sit on the couch together. I light a stick of my favorite incense do a little palo santo smudging, put my favorite essential oil and sit down to try and focus on my breath. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, whats cool is that it changes every day. Nothing is permanent.
BRUSHING
Dry brushing and hair brushing
My sister gave me this La Bonne hairbrush. I loveeeeee it! I am not exaggerating when I say its made my hair healthier and shinier. It gives my dry hair a polished finish without making it puffy or frizzy. Its an investment, but its worth it. Big fan.
Skin dry brushing. I have been doing this for a year now to help with lymphatic drainage and I have noticed a lot of positive benefits. 1. It feels amazing. you brush towards your heart, so from the neck to heart down, from the heart down, up. Even if I dont shower, I do this first thing in the morning to get circulation going. 2. It helps with your skin. Its our biggest organ!
I want to give it lots of love.
etc.
Etc.
Feverfew flowers, protein bars that taste like Snickers, the start of wild blueberries, this incredibly nourishing hand cream that smells like my grandmother, Saint Rita Parlor perfume, Wendell Berry. All things that help me through the busy season.
